Hello & Happy Tuesday!!
As a clinical nutritionist, I believe wellness begins with what’s on your plate. However, did you know that every cell in your body needs water in order to function? Without enough hydration, it doesn’t matter what you’re eating. Hydration is imperative and takes precedence over everything else.
So what if your water intake is right where it should be? While water is a life-sustaining fluid that’s essential to health, if you’re consuming tap water, it can undermine your health. Tap water typically contains chlorine, fluorine compounds, Trihalomethanes (THMs), assorted hormones, pesticides and even trace amounts of prescription drugs.
The Environmental Working Group spent three years investigating the country’s drinking water and found that roughly 85% of the population was using tap water laced with over 300 contaminants, many with unknown long-term effects and more than half of which aren’t even regulated by the EPA. Curious about the water where you live, click here.
Think bottled water makes more sense? The bottled water industry is said to be virtually unregulated, is costly, and even the EPA states it’s claims it’s no safer than tap water. It’s also estimated that three liters of water is required to produce just a single liter with roughly 17 million barrels of oil is required to produce the plastics bottles, according to The Pacific Institute. 2/3rds of those bottles wind up in the ocean and in landfills, polluting and poisoning waters and wildlife.
While I live and breathe nutrition, if there is one thing I struggle with, it’s staying hydrated. I’m always on my feet, on the go, and will completely forget to keep my water intake constant. This could stem from habit, or it can even be related to not producing enough hormones to trigger that I need to hydrate. That being said, it can be a hard habit to overcome. With pregnancy, water intake becomes even more of a priority as your needs further increase. I organically reached for water during the first trimester to mitigate nausea. However, once that subsided, I was back where I started and forgetting to drink enough.
Growing up we had a water dispenser when it was more of a newer movement. I loved having access to clean hot and cold water, but as an adult I had yet to explore owning one myself until recently. After just a few short weeks of owning my own Primo® First Steps Bottom-Loading Water Dispenser, I just can’t imagine my routine without one.
I prefer to keep my use of the microwave to a minimum and don’t have excess room for a fridge water purifier. Having the water dispenser visible in the kitchen at all times is a constant reminder to reach for a fresh glass. While some fridges have a water system, I personally don’t trust the cleanliness of it or the filtration system.
In addition to having to make hydration a priority with pregnancy, purified water is also necessary for formula feeding and or rice cereal you may make for you baby. Having a Primo® First Steps Bottom-Loading Water Dispenser system removes the stress of it all as I don’t have to worry if the water I’m using is compromised, plus, the First Steps Bottom-Loading Water Dispenser has a warm water setting made specifically for mixing formula bottles…if you’ve ever dealt with a hungry, angry baby, you know this feature is super convenient!
What’s also great about this system outside of increasing your water intake is that it minimizes plastic bottle waste, making it environmentally friendly. It’s design also has great aesthetic appeal. Gone are the days you have to stare at a water bottle or hear the system running in the other room. The look is sleek, modern, blends seamlessly into any kitchen, even lights up for nighttime use, allows for warm water temperature, which is ideal for warming formula or making food and even alerts you when it’s cleaning or needs to be emptied. Plus, it only took minutes to set up with no tools or plumbing required, and the bottom loading design makes it easy to slip in one of the pre-filled or refillable 3 or 5-gallon water bottles (sold separately) into the cabinet.
For the first time ever you can have access to great tasting drinking water and be baby formula ready with the Primo® First Steps Bottom-Loading Water Dispenser.
