I’ll be honest, I haven’t done a ton of almond flour concepts. I love alternative flours, but let’s be transparent, they don’t always work. So not only did you waste your time, but you wasted your money, because let’s face it. 

 

Almond flour is expensive!

 

So with a little almond flour on hand, I decided to venture outside the white flour and try an apple bar concept and it worked!! Mind. Blown. That being said, I’m going to make more of a concerted effort to incorporate almond flour in recipes as I’m changing slowly changing my perception!

 

 

 

 

 


 

What’s fab about this recipe, is everything! It’s quick easy, affordable, flourless, gluten free, packed with apples, low sugar, perf for fall, has texture, aesthetic appeal, and is hands down my new favorites recipe because of all of the above!!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° and line a 8×8 pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine almond flour, vegan butter or (room temp) coconut oil, coconut sugar, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla. Mix until well combined. Press into the bottom of the prepared pan and bake for 11-13 minutes, or until sides are slightly brown. Let cool while preparing the next layer.
  3. In a large pan add all the ingredients with the apples, cook until softened (5-7 minutes). Combine the corn starch and water and remove all of the clumps. Add to the starch combo to the pan and continue to stir. The sauce should thicken. Remove from heat and set aside. Layer the apple on top of the cooked cooled crust.
  4. Combine the topping ingredients in a bowl by hand. Sprinkle on top of the apple layer and bake for an addition 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Remove from heat, allow to cool, slice and enjoy!

  1. Can regular flour be used in the same amounts? Thanks!

    • Hi Lauren, Great question! I believe with almond flour, 1 cup flour = 2 cups of almond flour, thus you would only need one cup of white flour. Let me know how they turn out!

    • Hello, You can use any type of apple you prefer, but I love Granny Smith!

  4. Hi is it possible to make this recipe oil free. Would a flax egg or apple sauce work instead of oil?

    • Hi Gail! You could skip the crumble topping that features butter (oil) and enjoy as is!
